Key expertise
Jan Grebe’s expertise lies in the fields of arms exports, global arms transfer, global militarization, maritime security, traditional conflict resolution and targeted/ smart sanctions.
(Academic) education / CV:
Jan Grebe holds a Magister Artium (MA) in Political Science (minors: Sociology, Economic and Social History) from Aachen University, Germany. He is currently a PhD Student at Aachen University working on his dissertation on Regional Security Cooperation in West Africa.
Since 2008, Jan Grebe has worked at BICC mainly as a Researcher and Project Leader working on the Global Militarization Index (GMI), maintaining the arms exports database and following developments of global arms transfers with a specific focus on maritime procurements.
Since May 2012, he is Chair of the expert group on arms exports of the Joint Conference Church and Development (GKKE).
From 2010 until 2011, he also held a position as Research Associate at Aachen University. From 2007 to 2008, Jan Grebe worked as an intern at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) within the global military expenditure project. In 2004, he was an intern with the German Technical Cooperation Agency (GIZ) in Uganda.
