Beginning at BICC / current duty

Susanne Heinke started at BICC in 1999 as Press Spokesperson and is generally responsible for communications. She is Project Leader for and Editor of BICC’s Annual Report, BICC’s website and the exhibition “Resources for a fairer world” are another responsibility of hers.

Key expertise

As Head of Public Relations, Susanne Heinke carries out a plethora of journalistic activities. She is responsible for the concept of BICC’s website; designs, plans, organizes, and implements BICC events and conferences. She edits BICC’s German publications, and designs and organizes exhibitions. Fundraising as well as national and international networking are also part of her activities at BICC.

(Academic) education / CV:

Susanne Heinke studied Slavic Studies and Library Sciences at the University of Cologne. 

As a journalist, she worked at the weekly Volkszeitung and the monthly Sowjetunion heute. She co-initiated Wostok, an independent journal on Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States. As freelancer, she worked for German and international media, for example WDR and Deutsche Welle.

In joining BICC, she became the Project Leader for ConverArt—The Art of Disarmament and supported the Center’s PR- and documentation section. 

In 2003, she became the first Press Spokesperson of BICC. She not only developed the Annual Report (since 2006), the BICC Newsletter, BICC Focus (since 2007), BICC Feature (since 2011) and various individual publications but is also the responsible editor for these. 

Responsible for the entire Public Relations activities at BICC, she for example was responsible for the festivities during the BICC-Anniversary in 2004—Partner City of Bonn, central celebration event with former Bundespräsident Johannes Rau—and the symposium “Peace on earth? Initiatives for disarmament, non-violence and dialogue” in 2010 in the framework of the 30th Anniversary Conference of the Right Livelihood Award in Bonn. Since 2008, she is responsible for BICC-Workshops at the Deutsche Welle Global Media Forum.

She was Project Leader of four information exhibitions (1999, 2003, 2005, 2008), amongst them the photo exhibition “Rohstoffe für eine gerechte Welt” (Natural Resources for a Fairer World).
