Internship
Thank you very much for your interest in working with the Bonn International Center for Conversion (BICC).
There are no vacancies until May 2012.
BICC offers internships throughout the year to qualified BA and graduate students and recent graduates from around the world for a duration of 3-6 months (with a minimum of 3 months).
Who we are
BICC is an internationally recognized independent peace and conflict research institution that contributes to peace and development by promoting the prevention of violent conflict as well as its constructive transformation.
Since its founding in 1994, BICC's research focus has been on topics related to conversion and security, including issues of resource-reuse, preventive conversion, post-conflict reconstruction, civil-military relations and human security. BICC's international and multidisciplinary staff includes experts in fields as diverse as classical conversion, development, small arms and light weapons (SALW), crisis prevention, conflict analysis and resolution, peacebuilding, security sector reform, disarmament, demobilization and reintegration (DD&R), resources and conflict, civil-military relations, migration and environmental and human security.
In these areas, BICC conducts traditional research and program evaluations, offers capacity building and training activities, and organizes workshops, conferences and exhibitions for a range of audiences, including policy makers, implementers, academics, target communities, and the general public. BICC projects are not focused on a particular geographic region, but the majority of them are currently conducted in Africa, Europe, and Central Asia.
What you get
BICC's Internship Program provides qualified candidates with meaningful, praxis-relevant and applied work experience to supplement and enhance their academic programs. Moreover, working at BICC allows interns to establish effective mentoring relationships with reputed professionals in their respective fields.
Interns are typically integrated into a project team but may also work collaboratively with BICC staff on additional projects. Interning at BICC means working with (and not for) experts in the field and actively developing and contributing their own component to the success of a project.
Generally, BICC does not provide financial remuneration for internships.
Who we are looking for
BICC is interested in applications from current students and recent graduates from accredited universities from around the world. The typical duration for internships is 3-6 months.
We need a CV, letter of interest (indicating the program area you are interested in as well as possible previous knowledge about the issues dealt with in this program area—seminars, papers, etc.) plus a short writing sample in English. Applications by e-mail are accepted throughout the year.
