Program Areas
BICC (Bonn International Center for Conversion) addresses a wide range of global topics in the field of peace and conflict research.
The promotion of peace and development is the most important precondition for security and the transformation of conflicts. BICC takes a comprehensive view of ‘conversion’ as the reduction and transformation of military stockpiles, capacities and processes.
This perception of conversion embraces an understanding of security that goes beyond the narrow focus that national states place on military security.
In fact, the risks and vulnerabilities associated with a number of global dynamics—migration, resource extraction, proliferation of arms, the privatization of violence—have arguably become all the more pronounced, urging us to find innovative and creative solutions to complex problems. In response to some of the peace and security challenges of the 21st century, BICC has organized its work into six program areas, which are mutually complementary and enable diverse thematic and methodological synergies.
