PhD 2015

Claudia Breitung holds a Magister degree from the University of Duisburg-Essen, where she also started her academic career at the Institute of Sociology. She later joined the University’s Institute for Development and Peace (INEF) doing research on development cooperation in post-conflict situations. In this context, she conducted field work in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), South Sudan and Uganda. Starting from 2011 (until 2014), Claudia worked for BICC as a technical advisor and was seconded to the South Sudan Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) Commission. After completing her PhD (Dr rer. pol.), which focused on humanitarian interactions with non-state armed groups, she has rejoined BICC to work on issues related to DDR and small arms and light weapons (SALW) control.
