(Academic) education / CV:

Marius Bales joined BICC in April 2016. He holds a bachelor in Political Science and German Studies from the University of Trier and a master in Political Science from the University of Bonn. Marius has been working as a freelance journalist and did internships, among others, at BICC, the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (Research Department I: International Security and World Order) and the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (Department K34: International cooperation culture; European affairs). Before joining the DFG-funded project on liquid warfare, he worked as a student assistant in the BMZ project on arms export control and was the co-editor of the Global Militarisation Index (GMI). As a PhD-researcher at BICC, he focuses on the question of how the proliferation of modern military technology transforms practices of warfare in the Gulf States. His regional focus is the Middle East.
