(Academic) education / CV:

Marius Bales joined BICC in April 2016. He holds a bachelor in Political Science and German Studies from the University of Trier and a master in Political Science from the University of Bonn. Marius has been working as a freelance journalist and did internships, among others, at BICC, the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (Research Department I: International Security and World Order) and the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (Department K34: International cooperation culture; European affairs). Before joining the DFG-funded project on liquid warfare, he worked as a student assistant in the BMZ project on arms export control and was the co-editor of the Global Militarisation Index (GMI). As a PhD-researcher at BICC, he focuses on the question of how the proliferation of modern military technology transforms practices of warfare in autocratic states. His regional focus is the Middle East.
