At BICC, Johanna contributes to the implementation of a project on small arms and light weapons (SALW) control in Africa as Junior Advisor. Her research interests lie in illicit trafficking of small arms, their control as well as disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration (DDR).

Before joining BICC, Johanna worked at the Heidelberg Institute for International Conflict Research (HIIK) and the think tank adelphi. There she focussed on conflict monitoring and natural resources and conflict. She has also gained experience in international development cooperation, for instance at Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Mexico.

Johanna Kleffmann holds an MA in Political Science from Freie Universität Berlin and Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá as well as a BA in Political Science/Human Geography from Heidelberg University. For her master’s thesis, Johanna conducted field research in Colombia analysing organised crime as a challenge to post-conflict peacebuilding.
