Fiona studied Political Science and Arab-Islamic cultures at the universities of Münster, Cologne and Amman/Jordan. As part of her master’s thesis, she examined media framing of female fighters in violent conflict. Internships with the German Armed Forces and the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Ethiopia deepened her understanding of security policy and development policy issues. At BICC, she is part of the German arms export project and mainly focuses on the linkages of armament, security and development. Furthermore, Fiona is interested in women’s participation as well as gendered perspectives in conflict and post-conflict settings.
