The 15th Annual General Meeting of the Integrated Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Training Group (IDDRTG) was hosted by BICC and co-chaired by the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA) from 9-11 July 2019.

BICC is currently supporting the revision of the United Nations Integrated Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Standards (IDDRS). The IDDRS was published by the UN Inter-Agency Working Group on DDR (IAWG) in 2006. In the same year, the Integrated DDR Training Group (IDDRTG) was launched to build and strengthen DDR training and education and to coordinate, maintain and develop different DDR training courses. Ten years later, in 2016, the members of the IAWG decided to review and further develop the Integrated DDR Standards. The revised IDDRS are intended to be launched by the end of 2019.

In line with this development, the Annual General Meeting of the IDDRTG was held in Bonn, Germany from 9 to 11 July 2019. BICC and the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA) hosted the meeting as co-chairs. Several training institutes participated in the meeting, while representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Department of Peace Operations attended as observers in their role as co-chairs of the IAWG.

The objective of the meeting was to take stock of completed and upcoming training activities of IDDRTG members on DDR and DDR-related subjects. As the revision of the United Nations IDDRS is ongoing, the IDDRTG members also discussed the implications of the revised IDDRS for training activities. In addition the meeting participants took the opportunity to propose new ideas for a closer collaboration between IDDRTG members, as well as cooperation initiatives with the IAWG and the African Union.

The meeting resulted in the development of an action plan to ensure closer collaboration within the group and cooperation with other organisations in the future. This project is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.
