Expert workshop on SALW Guide

On 4 February 2015 BICC invited experts and partners to discuss the update of the online Small Arms and Light Weapons Guide ( as well as future opportunities for collaboration in SALW data collection and information-sharing.

Among the participants of the workshop were representatives from the German Foreign Ministry, the Bundeswehr Verification Center, the Group for Research and Information on Peace and Security (GRIP), MAG (Mines Advisory Group) and Small Arms Survey (SAS) as well as BICC researchers and advisors.

The current SALW Guide, which was launched two years ago in New York during the PoA review conference, is currently being developed further. BICC experts presented and demonstrated the results of the revision process and discussed it with the participants. Main topics were how to increase the applicability and the range of use as well as the question of how to integrate the guide into daily project work. The experts also talked about the Guide’s value for the implementation of SALW control instruments and reporting mechanisms.

The revised version of the SALW Guide will soon be available via the BICC website
