Physical security and stockpile management (PSSM) Assessment Report Validation Meeting in Banjul, Gambia
On 22 October 2018, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission and its Small Arms Division presented a “Technical Assessment of Weapons and Ammunition Management in The Gambia” to the President of The Gambia, as well as to the Minister of the Interior and the Inspector General of Police.
This report was a collaborative effort between the ECOWAS Commission, the Mines Advisory Group (MAG) as well as the Bonn International Center for Conversion (BICC) and is another step in the ECOWAS Commission’s efforts to support The Gambia in improving its Physical Security and Stockpile Management (PSSM) measures and supporting the implementation of the ECOWAS Convention on Small Arms and Light Weapons, Their Ammunition and Other Related Materials (2006). After the report was presented to the President, the ECOWAS with its technical partners BICC and MAG conducted a validation meeting with representatives from the Government of the Gambia to discuss the report’s findings and recommendations – one of which is to re-activate the National Commission on SALW.
