The speakers will be His Excellency Mr Zahaby Ould Sidi Mohamed, Minister for National Reconciliation (Mali) and Ambassador Emmanuel Imohe, Chairman of the Nigerian Presidential Committee on Small Arms and Light Weapons and President of the 2016 ATT Conference of States Parties.

In his presentation, His Excellency Zahaby Ould Sidi Mohamed will discuss the current conflict dynamics in the Sahel region, including the mobilisation of Islamic militants, as well as the prospects for peace and reconciliation in Mali. Ambassador Emmanuel Imohe will focus on the role of illicit arms proliferation in the Sahel, as well as on international efforts—such as the Arms Trade Treaty—to combat this threat.

With backgrounds in both research and policy advice, BICC is currently implementing a regional programme on behalf of the German Foreign Office to strengthen the capacity of the African Union and other regional organisations in their efforts to combat the proliferation of small arms in the Greater Sahel region, including in Mali and Nigeria.

Moderator of the talk will be Wolf-Christian Paes, Head of Advisory Services at BICC.
