Ukraine: The crisis, the people and a global conflict

Supported by BICC, GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) and the General-Anzeiger Bonn invite the interested public to the event “Ukraine: The crisis, the people and a global conflict” (in German). The discussion takes place in the framework of the series of events “Bonn and the World”.

The disputes in and around Ukraine can be found in the daily headlines. The conflict’s effects can also be felt in Germany. But it is difficult to get a clear picture of where exactly the interests of the different parties lie. The political context is one side of the medal; the question about the situation of the people in Ukraine is the other. How do they live in the west and east of the country? What are they hoping for? Where do they need support? And what can this support look like? What can be done to help the population despite the adverse framework conditions?

On Tuesday, 16 December 2014, 18:00 to 20:00, these and other questions will be addressed by:

·         Roman Goncharenko, expert on Ukraine, Deutsche Welle

·         Andreas Heinemann-Grüder, conflict researcher, BICC (Bonn International Center for Conversion)

·         Holger Neuweger, longstanding head of the GIZ country office in Ukraine

Moderation: Andreas Mühl, assisstant chief editor, General-Anzeiger, Bonn

Venue: Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH

Friedrich-Ebert-Allee 40, Saal A
