Bonn Center for Conversion amongst top think tanks worldwide

The University of Pennsylvania’s Global “Go-To Think Tanks”-Report 2012 lists BICC (Bonn International Center for Conversion) in two categories amongst the leading think tanks worldwide. The ranking is based on an analysis of 6,603 think tanks from 182 countries. 1,100 experts from around the world, across the political spectrum and from every discipline and sector helped nominate and select public policy research centers of excellence.

The Global “Go-To Think Tanks”-Report 2012 nominates BICC on the one hand amongst the TOP 100 Think Tanks Worldwide (Non-US) and on the other amongst the TOP 150 Think Tanks Worldwide (US and Non-US). BICC is thus the only German peace and conflict research institute that can be found in the international ranking.

The editors describe the rankings’ primary objective to recognize some of the world’s leading public policy think tanks and highlight the notable contributions these institutions are making to governments and civil societies worldwide. Over the course of six years, the “Think Tank Index” by this way has become an authoritative source for the top public policy institutions around the world. This year the Report will be launched at the United Nations University and at the World Bank in Washington, D.C.

BICC deals with a wide range of global topics in the field of peace and conflict research. The six following areas form the framework for BICC’s work: “Security—Stakeholders, systems, threats”“Arms—Global trends, exports, control”“Resources and conflict”“Migration, conflicts and security”, “Base conversion”, “Data and GIS” (Geographic Information Systems). These areas are mutually complementary and enable diverse thematic and methodological synergies.

As an independent, non-profit organization BICC is dedicated to promoting and facilitating peace and development. BICC was founded in 1994 with the support of the Land North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) as a non-profit limited liability company (GmbH) and has since been supported by the Land.
