The Global Media Forum is Deutsche Welle’s global platform where international partners can connect and strengthen relations with representatives from the fields of journalism, digital media, politics, culture, business, development, academia and civil society.

The thematic focus for 2018 was on “Global Inequalities", with the third day of the conference the “Media Innovation Lab Day” focused more specifically on the challenges and opportunities of digitalization to the international media landscape.

BICC’s session took place on Tuesday 12, with the title “Global Inequalities in the Academic World: Researchers under Threat”. Shedding light on this dimension of global inequality and its various solutions is a difficult yet vital mission for civil society as well as the media. What is the potential of the media to support researchers and research under threat? How can digital developments and technology help?
