Support to the Revision and Dissemination of the United Nations Integrated Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration Standards

This project supports and adds value to the internal revision process of the United Nations' Integrated DDR Standards (IDDRS), originally published by the UN Inter-Agency Working Group (IAWG) in 2006. Over the course of two years, this project will proceed along four inter-dependent pillars.

\ Pillar 1 supports the Department of Peace Operations (DPO) in the revision and validation of existing or new IDDRS modules, primarily through the secondment of a BICC Advisor/Senior Researcher to UN Headquarters in New York. The Advisor is responsible for coordinating, drafting, and harmonizing language and concepts in the IDDRS among all 20 plus members of the IAWG.

\ Pillar 2 provides new insights and policy-relevant research on DDR, by way of a research paper on the reintegration of former combatants and other returnees and a four-country study requested by DPO.

\ Pillar 3: Upon completion of the IDDRS revision process, BICC assists in the development of a new IDDRS training curriculum, the creation of associated training materials, and the organisation of three Training of Trainer (ToT) workshops around the world, using BICC's position as co-Chair of the Integrated DDR Training Group (IDDRTG).

\ Pillar 4 also supports the dissemination and operationalization of the revised IDDRS by developing five short Practice Notes on various modules or topics covered by the IDDRS to be used by practitioners and policymakers alike, as well as organizing three launch events for the IDDRS around the world.
