Bouba’s dream was to become a doctor—until life had other plans. Somewhere along the way, his path shifted. Instead of becoming a medical professional, Bouba found himself stitching the wounds of Boko-Haram fighters deep in Sambisa forest, a remote border region between Cameroon and Nigeria.
On the margins of the 2025 DDR Symposium, bicc/AU/DPO will launch a new podcast series “The Sahel Untold”. Reflecting on life stories such as Bouba’s, the series shares personal experiences of people from the Sahel—a region often described as fragile and facing a diverse set of challenges including climate change, poverty and the presence of extremist groups. By bringing voices from conflict-affected borderlands in the Sahel directly into international policy conversations, we seek to bridge the gap between global policy and local reality.
This podcast has been created / produced in the framework of a joint project of the African Union (AU), the United Nations Department of Peace Operations (DPO) and bicc titled ´Regional Approaches to Dealing with Armed Groups in the Sahel`. This project is generously funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.
