Sustainable capacity development is central in Germany's strategic partnership with the Regional Centre on Small Arms and Light Weapons (RECSA) — enabling regional institutions and member States to internalise standards, deepen expertise, and strengthen cross-border cooperation.
Through the projects, 'Support for SALW Control in Africa' and 'PAVE – Prevention of Recruitment into Armed Groups in Africa', funded by the German Federal Foreign Office, bicc supports RECSA and its member States through cross-border forums, political dialogue, and legislative harmonisation under the Nairobi Protocol. This gradual shift toward RECSA- and member State-led implementation reflects best practice in sustainable capacity development and remains essential to regional conflict prevention.
To learn more about the partnership's contribution to civilian crisis prevention, read the full report by bicc Senior Advisor and member of the Advisory Board on Civilian Crisis Prevention and Peacebuilding Milena Berks & Anne Karithwa from RECSA.
