Topics

For the second time since the official end of the bloody civil war in 2002, the citizens of Sierra Leone were called up to cast their ballots in parliamentary and Presidential elections on 11 August 2007. The elections are a litmus test for the stability of the post-war order in Sierra Leone, which had been established with major international efforts. This BICC Focus presents an overview of the state of the peace consolidation process in Sierra Leone and lists options for action for German and international actors. The following questions must, above all, be addressed: Where does the state that was viewed until recently as a ‚failed’ state stand today? What has been achieved and which challenges are there for the future?
