Prior to his engagement at BICC, Nikhil has worked with UNIDIR, UNDP/BCPR, UN IAWG/DDR on cluster munitions, explosive remnants of war, local-level community security needs assessments, reintegration of children formerly associated with armed groups and has designed evidence-based approaches to DDR. From December 2012 to January 2016, Nikhil provided technical and policy advice to the Sudan Disarmament Demobilization Reintegration Commission (SDDRC) to support arms control efforts in Darfur and the wider region focusing on the CAR / DRC and Sudan / Chad borders. Since September 2016, he has been seconded to the Regional Centre for Small Arms Control (RECSA) Secretariat in Nairobi, Kenya as Technical Advisor on Arms Control / DDR & PSSM in East Africa focusing on Sudan, Somalia, Djibouti while strengthening cross-regional partnerships on arms control within the Sahel.
Nikhil specializes in field-based practical arms control activities in the Horn, Great Lakes and Sahel regions of Africa including weapons marking, registration and tracing as well as conducting assessments and enhancing institutional capacity on PSSM of weapons and ammunition for militaries, police and wildlife services. In addition, he is a professional photographer and videographer.
